EDC Carry Choices
Concealed carry is one of the most important aspects of being a prepared individual, so much so that the majority of our content here at Purposeful Armament is focused on training and usage of firearms.
The choices you make have a direct impact on the outcome of the scenarios you face. "If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail" - Benjamin Franklin.
Life has a fantastic way of throwing scenarios at us that we do not expect, to illustrate my point can you say 100% certainty that over the last year, were you aware of everything that was going to happen to you?
Surely not, in like manner no matter the severity of the unknown, there is a possibility it could be one in which you need to defend life. Are YOU ready to do that?
C/C/C
Capability/Concealment/Comfort
A line or ratio is decided conscience or not for people separating the max capability vs. comfort/concealment when choosing their EDC pistol.
It is more acceptable to err on the concealment side rather than willingly have less capability because "it's not comfy" when balancing the scale of C/C/C.
Carrying a firearm isn't supposed to be comfy, it's comforting.
What does this mean in layman's terms?
Small gun, easy to carry hard to shoot
Big gun, hard to carry easy to shoot
Concealment
Obviously everyone's life is different and have different challenges in front of them. Your employer may have strict rules such as a "no firearms policy". If you choose to carry regardless, you're choosing to be prepared to defend life over the safety of your career.
This type of decision is serious and obviously, concealment is much more important to you comparatively than someone who works in an environment where open carrying is acceptable.
Everyone must make their own choice on the ratio they establish for this topic.
Comfort
While we draw the line a little bit harsher than most, comfort IS something to weigh out. If your firearm isn't comfy at all, chances are you won't want to wear it.
Often even the biggest firearms can be concealed well. The key for comfort is all in the holster. Personally, I went through 5 different brands of holsters before finding Trex-Arms Sidecar which is my standard now for most of the pistols I own.
Holster & Carry Position
As mentioned above, the holster is a key piece of gear for you to effectively carry your firearm without it being seen and while not causing you physical pain. Your holster is also responsible for one more big thing... SAFETY.
Safety should be the #1 concern for you when choosing a holster. Thankfully, it's an easy thing to meet in today's selection of IWB/OWB holsters. Quite simply: DON'T GET SOFT HOLSTERS.

The function of a holster is to cover the trigger and guard and ensure nothing interacts with it while the gun resides in it. There are many great companies who make safe, fantastic holsters like: Trex-Arms, Tier1 Concealment, Safariland, etc.
These companies also provide options in their holster lineup for your chosen carry position. While we at Purposeful Armament normally carry appendix, you will have to weigh the pros and cons of Appendix, Strong-Side, and Small of Back.
